Birmingham Children’s Hospital has thousands of supporters and fundraisers who repeatedly go out of their way to make a real difference to the children and young people in Birmingham and beyond. Each week we will be telling the story of one of the hospital’s dedicated Charity Champions to highlight the difference that they are making.
Charity Champion Profile
Name: Vale Festival Society
Occupation: Students at the University of Birmingham
Brief Description: The student-led society at the University of Birmingham held its twelfth annual Vale Festival in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
A student-led society at the University of Birmingham has achieved this week’s Charity Champion gong after organising a music festival which raised a remarkable £17,178 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
Inspired to support a local cause, the team of 38 volunteers from Birmingham University’s ‘Vale Festival Society’ selected the children’s hospital as the beneficiary for its hotly-anticipated, twelfth annual concert, which is the largest student-run fundraising festival in Europe.
The ‘Vale Festival’ sold out within days and saw attendees enjoy a variety of musical performances, food and other activities, with all proceeds supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s Star Appeal – a £3.65 million appeal which will build the UK’s first Rare Diseases Centre for children.
Society member Tara Goatley said: “As a student group, we feel there’s a lot we can do to help the local community and make a massive difference, which is why we most recently decided to fundraise for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
“Our twelfth event exceeded all of our expectations, as it marked our first-ever sold-out festival! As such, we were over-the-moon with our final fundraising total and we hope it will have a massive impact on such an amazing hospital, which helps sick children in our region when they need it most.”
Annie Eytle, Acting Events and Regional Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, added: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the Vale Festival Society for arranging such a fantastic event and donating a phenomenal amount towards our current Star Appeal.
“We’re thrilled to have raised nearly £3 million to date and thanks to these kind-hearted students, we’re now one step closer to reaching our £3.65 million target and making our new Rare Diseases Centre a reality for our brave patients.”
