This July a host of celebrities will be racing around Silverstone to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Joining the Hollywood start to take part in the 2012 Silverstone Classic 'Celebrity Challenge' will be Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott, Strictly Come Dancing's Brendan Cole, Kelvin Fletcher from Emmerdale, Coronation Street’s Tony Hirst and ex-England footballer Steve Bull award-winning chef Heston Blumenthal and others.
Speaking at the launch Sir Patrick Stewart commented: 'I've raced once before, in a pro-celebrity event on the Long Beach Grand Prix circuit in California – but that was ten years ago. I’ve been in retirement since then! When the chance to drive a great British sportscar here at Silverstone came up… well, what could be better? It was just irresistible. I’m looking forward to it immensely.'

Birmingham Children’s Hospital and The Pallasades are delighted to announce the winner of The Pallasades `Design a Bag` competition is Olivia Nordstrum, age 6 from Sutton Coldfield.
The competition in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital attracted a staggering 300 entries in 3 age categories - under 7’s, 7 to 13 years and 14 to 18 years. Olivia’s design was chosen by the Judges as the clear winner in her own age category and as the overall winner. The runners-up were Martha Duncan, 11 who had the best design in the 7 to 13 years age category; and Fasia Ahmed, 14, who had the best design in the 14 to 18 years age category. Martha’s design features a striking Union Jack, and Fasia’s clever design of three hearts incorporating the words love, hope and cure.
Olivia’s winning design will be sold for £2.50 in The Pallasades Shopping Centre and at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Fundraising shop.
Jo Laidlar, Marketing Manager at The Pallasades, said: “We were overwhelmed by the response to this competition and we thank everyone who took the time to enter. It was a difficult task to choose the three age category winners, and almost impossible to then choose an overall winner from those three. Olivia’s design was so bright and cheerful that we felt at the end of the day it was a worthy winner.”
Fidelis Hynam, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, added: “Like Jo, we too were delighted by the response to this competition and our thanks go to all those youngsters who entered. We are looking forward to selling the bag with Olivia’s design in our shop. We are sure that it will help us to raise funds for important care, treatment and research and we thank The Pallasades for committing to match the amount for each bag sold.”
