Birmingham has a range of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) that aim to support and help with children and young people who are experiencing emotional and mental health problems.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust manages a branch of Birmingham CAMH Services who have strong working links with the LAC CAMH Service of the Birmingham City Council and voluntary agencies within Birmingham.

Our services are split onto 3 localities for Birmingham – Birmingham North & East, Heart of Birmingham and South. Each area has its own Single Point of Access and services are provided by a range of staff including Social Workers, Doctors, Nurses, Psychologists, Youth Offending Workers, Primary Mental Health Workers and other Therapists.
Alongside the CAMHS Multi-disciplinary Teams within each locality we also provide specialist Citywide CAMHS services to children and young people with Substance Misuse issues and those who have a moderate to severe Learning Disability with a CAMHS need.

| In-Patient & Tertiary Services |
Birmingham CAMHS also offer an in-patient (and associated out-patient) service to children and young people of the West Midlands Region with 4 in-patient units within the main Hospital site and at Parkview Clinic in Moseley; Irwin Unit, Ashfield Unit, Heathlands Unit and Ward 3.
As well as inpatient beds services include Family Therapy, Tertiary Psychology, Language Unit.

| What problems can we help with? including: |
Emotional difficulties: e.g. anxiety, depression, anger, mood swings, low self-esteem.
Behavioural difficulties: e.g. violence, destructiveness, self-harm, over activity, sexualised behaviours, obsessive behaviours.
Relationship difficulties: e.g. problems in the family, with peers, in school or the community, problems with attachment and loss.
Developmental / disability difficulties: e.g. bedwetting, soiling, problems eating/sleeping, communicating.
Emotional difficulties associated with physical health problems, eg. Treatment adherence problems

| What services do we offer? including: |
Specialist assessment, both comprehensive and multidisciplinary including diagnosis.
Therapy, including individual, family and group work.
In-patient care and treatment
Consultation to statutory professionals, and other key workers about concerns.
Co-working with key workers.
Contribution to multidisciplinary care planning.
Signposting to other services when a child’s needs can be more appropriately met by another service.
Training for other professionals, e.g. primary care staff, education staff, foster carers and residential carers.

Access to CAMHS is via the Single Point of Access.
Birmingham CAMHS accepts referrals from statutory and voluntary services. We do not accept self referrals at this time.

In each locality there is a Telephone Advice Line which referrers can use to gain information regarding how to make a referral or to ask advice about a child or young person. Contact details can be found through the link to the left.

| Access to the in-patient and tertiary services |
Referrals for these services for complex cases are generally through Community CAMHS and Paediatrics.
