Clinical Chemistry | The West Midlands Inherited Metabolic Disorders Laboratory Service


The inherited metabolic disorders (IMD) laboratory is part of the Department of Clinical Chemistry. We provide highly specialised biochemical and molecular services for the diagnosis and management of a wide range of conditions

We are part of the Inherited Metabolic Disease Team and work closely with the neurology, hepatology and nephrology teams at Birmingham Children's Hospital and with the Regional Genetic Services at Birmingham Women's Hospital. There are also links and joint clinics with the adult services at the Birmingham University Hospital NHS Trust for some disorders.
