The
General Paediatric Laboratory is part of the Department of Clincal
Chemistry. We provide a routine clinical chemistry service to
inpatients and outpatients at Birmingham Children's Hospital;
including specialist tests such as immunosuppressant monitoring
(Cyclosporin A & FK506), Sweat Tests and the measurement
of the Glomerular Filtration Rate by 51Cr-EDTA clearance. A
24 hour emergency service is provided for a limited range of
analytes. The Department actively supports point of care testing
for Ward-based glucose meters and blood gas analysers.
