We care for babies from birth who require surgery, including
pre-term and term babies. Patients are either referred from
maternity units, paediatric wards in other hospitals, via GPs
or via casualty wards, initially needing to be stabilised. Care
can be quite intense prior to preparation for surgery. Post
operative care includes the establishment of feeding which can
take weeks or months, Throughout their stay on the ward, the
family are supported with ongoing information and advice and
our ultimate goal is to gradually transfer the caring role to
the family ready for discharge.
