Great Trade UPThe Great Trade UP

The guidelines are as follows

  1. All trades will start with single red balloon, worth 4p.
  2. No team will participate in illegal activity, or anything that could be deemed to put the traders, Birmingham Children’s Hospital or anyone involved in the Great Trade UP at risk.
  3. All trading activity must be emailed to the Great Trade UP Master in order for the league table to be published weekly in the Birmingham Post and on this website.
  4. All trading will cease on 28th February, and then each team has 1 week to cash in their final item, i.e. swap their item for cash, which will then be donated to the Emergency Department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
  5. By 5pm on 6th March, the team that has secured the most money for their final trade and handed this to the Great Trade UP Master will be the winner.
  6. The winner will be announced at the Grand Finale on 6th March.

» How did we come up with the Great Trade UP idea?

It’s based upon the experience of Kyle MacDonald, a Canadian who bartered his way from a single paperclip to a house. Kyle first traded his red paperclip for a fish shaped pen which he then traded for a hand sculptured door knob.

From small beginnings he expanded his trades to include trips and an afternoon with a local celebrity, until he reached a two storey farmhouse.
