Hollywood legend Sir Patrick Stewart is raising money for the Birmingham Children's Hospital Cancer Appeal by taking part in the Silverstone Classic 'Celebrity Challenge' in July.
The charity race takes place on Saturday 21 July, when an all-star line-up will compete in 130mph Morgan lightweight racecars at the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
Sir Patrick is calling for people to help them raise as much money as possible for the Cancer Appeal by donating online.
Speaking at the launch he commented: "I’m delighted to be racing for Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the 2012 Silverstone Classic Celebrity Challenge. It was an obvious choice as I have children and grand-children and live not far from Birmingham. I’m hoping the money I raise will help to make a difference to lots of children’s lives.”
The Cancer Appeal aims to raise £4million to provide more space and better surroundings for the children in our care. More than 10% of all children with cancer in the UK are treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and more than 200 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed each year.
