The first opportunity I had to experience the incredible Fundraising Team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital was when I decided to complete work experience here at the age of 15. I knew then that I absolutely had to come back when I had finished in education and that’s exactly what I did.

As soon as I came out of sixth form, I started volunteering three days a week with the team, learning all about the amazing work they do day in, day out. It’s great to find out all about the different aspects of fundraising that you can get involved with such as Corporate, Events, Regional, Marketing… the list goes on, and it’s amazing getting to be involved in brilliant events such as The Big Bandage on only my second day! I had the opportunity to really feel like I was contributing to the team, working on lots of different projects, at the same time as working to discover what I wanted for my future.

Fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital never feels like my 9-5 job: it feels like I’m part of a team making a difference every single day – which is exactly what they do here at the charity. The best part of volunteering with the team is hearing those phone calls and visits from the incredible families from the hospital who are benefiting from fundraising in sometimes small and sometimes enormous ways every day. Volunteering with the team has given me opportunities I could never have imagined possible, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
