What is 'Tour de Brum'?

Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity has partnered with Madhare cycling club to bring you a virtual charity cycling challenge. The ‘Tour De Brum’ is for EVERYONE - it doesn’t matter if it’s your first time on a bike or you’re a seasoned pro - see how many Birmingham sights you can visit across March and April.

Your physical health has an impact on how you feel. We know that COVID-19 restrictions can make us fall into unhealthy habits which make us feel worse. Joining #TeamBCH on the 'Tour de Brum' will help you get into a healthy routine whilst supporting our NHS heroes.

Date: Any time between 1 March to 30 April 2021

Cost: £10 (including finishers badge, tracking apps linked to record your progress and fundraising support)

Location: Anywhere: virtual challenge

How it works

We appreciate that staying active can be difficult, especially with work or family to look after, so you can complete your distance anywhere from 21km to 300km at your own pace over a few days, weeks or the across the months of March and April.

Your 'Tour de Brum' starts virtually at Birmingham Children's Hospital. Set off from your home and complete any or all of the following distances and see how many virtual sights you can visit across the month of March. At the end of the month Madhare cycling club will send your exclusive 'Tour de Brum' badge.

Whether it's your first virtual cycle or you're a seasoned cyclist, take on the challenge your way. You could even make it feel like race day and join friends or family to complete your challenges together (in line with government guidelines).

Fundraising

We ask that everyone taking part tries to fundraise to help us do more for sick kids at our amazing hospital. It's our mission to raise the vital funds needed to make a real difference to all who use our hospital's services, offering them the best experience possible.

It is only through the kindness, generosity and hard work of our supporters who raise these vital funds that we are able to do more by improving our hospital environment, bringing in the latest state-of-the-art equipment, and funding research and innovation, ultimately providing the best experience possible for our exceptional patients.

£25 could pay for a pair of professional singers to engage a child with songs at their bedside.

£50 could fill a ‘distraction’ bag with toys, games and puzzles to keep little ones busy and occupied during medical procedures.

£100 could purchase five ‘Health Passports’ for a young person working with our Mental Health Service. These bespoke journals are designed to empower patients to manage their own health and wellbeing.

£500 could give a sick child and their family an adventure holiday to help them make memories away from the bedside.
