FAMILY RAISE FUNDS TO SAY THANKS

A brave family have been awarded this week’s Charity Champion after raising over £4000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

The family of Josh Nicholson were inspired to fundraise following the incredible care that their son Josh received at the hospital during his 3.5 year fight with Leukaemia.

To thank the hospital, Josh’s friends and family decided to take on the charity’s abseil challenge. The event took place in March 2017 at Birmingham’s landmark Fort Dunlop building. Unfortunately, at the time, Josh was too sick to take on the 100ft drop, so his friends and family did it in his honour.

Five months later, in August 2017, Josh was given the all clear and discharged from the Children’s Hospital, but his family’s fundraising journey didn’t end there. Team Josh are also planning cake sales, runs, BBQ evenings, wristband sales and even hoping to take on Snowdon, more abseils and sky dives for 2018!

Francesca Josh’s cousin, said: “Our hero Josh is the bravest boy we know. He has been through so much for someone of his age and we are so very proud of him.

“Birmingham Children’s Hospital means everything to us - they have been there for our family through the toughest of times and we are forever grateful for the work they do.

“Through our fundraising and Facebook page we are able to raise awareness for the charity and give something back to them. We will continue to do all we can to help raise as much money as possible for the hospital so they can continue to save the lives of children and young people – it’s a very special place.”

Miranda Williams, Public Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital Charity, added: “We’re delighted to hear that Josh has been given the all clear and has been discharged from the hospital.

“It’s inspirational to hear how the Nicholson family have supported our charity over the past year and we’re incredibly grateful to Team Josh for taking on such a brave challenge to raise vital funds.

“We treat over 90,000 children and young people from across the country every year, and the money Team Josh has raised will make a huge difference to the lives of our brave young children and their families on Ward 15, where Josh was treated.”
