Alice Age 10

Alice is 10 years old and owes her life to Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Born five weeks premature, weighing a tiny 3lb 9ozs, Alice spent the first few weeks of her life in an incubator in neonatal care. It was there that doctors found a heart murmur and later diagnosed her with a congenital condition, Tetralogy of Fallots, meaning that she had been born with four different heart defects.  Her care was transferred to the specialist cardiac team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and at 11 months old she underwent major open-heart surgery to repair her heart.

Thankfully, the operation was a success and since then she has gone from strength to strength. Alice and her ever grateful family have fundraised for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity year after year as a way of saying thank you. In October 2020,  Alice completed a 20-mile cycle challenge across the bumpy terrain of Cannock Chase, raising over £3400 for the hospital. She was later recognised for her fundraising achievements and was named as one of Birmingham Children’s Hospital ‘100 Heros 2021’.

When Alice heard that the she could help raise money for the hospital by designing their charity Christmas card, she jumped at the chance and set to work straight away. She tried hard to design a card that incorporated the iconic Children’s Hospital red balloon and to make her drawing eye catching by using bright colours.
