How your fundraising helps.

Your fundraising can go towards supporting any part of the hospital. But did you know that each year we have a team that take part in the annual Transplant Games, a national competition for young people who have been through one or more organ transplants? A number of children, just like six-year-old Harry (pictured), underwent a liver transplant at our hospital in March 2016 after he was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare, life-threatening disease that damages the liver in newborns.

Since his transplant, Harry has made a full recovery and gone on to become a #TeamBCH Transplant Games contender, where he has won a string of medals in everything from the 25-metre dash to archery and speed cup stacking. Mum, Clare, said: “The Transplant Games have been amazing for Harry. Watching so many children who have been on such difficult personal experiences coming together, making friends and having fun is wonderful. It has helped to encourage Harry to keep active and make the most of every opportunity. We’re all so proud of how far he has come.”

Games athletes will go far in ensuring each child can take part:

£50 buys each athlete’s kit, including a t-shirt and sweatshirt

£100 pays for the family’s registration fees to attend the games or funds an athlete for the day (including kit, fees and accommodation per day)

£250 pays for a family’s accommodation at the team’s hotel, so they can spend time with other families and children that have been through a similar experience
