Our Eye Department is home to a team of specialists who see thousands of children and young people, with a wide range of conditions, from across the UK every year.

Thanks to our generous supporters and donors, we were able to extend and totally refurbish the department's waiting room in 2018, bringing a much-needed light and airy space full of interactive toys suitable for children with visual impairments.

Meet Our Eye Patients

Six-year-old Alfred has been a frequent visitor since he was two-years-old (pictured). Alfred has developmental Glaucoma, a condition which occurs in babies and young children. The condition can be inherited and is caused when the eye’s drainage system fails to fully develop before birth.

Alfred has to attend appointments at least once a month and the new exciting and engaging environment has had a positive impact on his patient experience, as mum Catherine explains:

“We’re regular visitors and can often be in the department for hours as we see several nurses and consultants. Trying to keep a very active five-year-old occupied can be a real challenge, but the new waiting room has made such a difference to us and other families like us.”

The refurbishment has benefited all of the 500 children who visit our Eye Department every week for treatment, but we still need your help.

With your support we can continue to make the department a more engaging place for babies and children like Alfred, to make sure their time with us is as positive and stimulating as possible.

Please support our Eye Department today by making a donation, setting up a monthly gift or texting Magic to 70480 to give £5*.
