Occupation: Students and staff
Hometown: Washwood Heath, Birmingham
Brief Description: Nursery students and staff at Leigh Primary School held a fundraising day, which raised £764 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

Nursery students and staff at Leigh Primary School, in Washwood Heath, are this week’s deserving Charity Champions after raising a ‘fun-tastic’ £764 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity by holding a charity fun day.

Inspired to raise money by their fellow pupils, many of whom have been cared for at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the 60 pupils and employees held their fifth annual fundraiser for the charity, more than doubling their previous £300 fundraising total.

For this year’s event, students paid £2 each to enjoy face painting, pamper sessions, balloon modelling and tasty treats. The kind-hearted kids also held a competition to see who could raise the most money by encouraging their friends, family and local community to pledge their support.

In total, Leigh Primary School has now raised over £2,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. Dean Robinson, Nursery Manager at Leigh Primary School, said: “Every year group at Leigh Primary School is encouraged to select a charity to support and Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity was chosen by the nursery. The hospital has provided a lot of care for the children at our school and it’s such a special place for many of our families.

“We loved every minute of our fun day and all worked extremely hard to exceed our fundraising target of £400. We had some very excited children put 100% into our competition and we’re thrilled with how the day went!”

Annie Eytle, Acting Events and Regional Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, added: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the nursery students and staff at Leigh Primary School for raising such an incredible amount of money for our charity and continuing to support our hospital over the years.

“The money they have donated will make a massive difference to the lives of our brave children and their families all across our hospital, allowing us to continue to push boundaries and improve standards of excellence in research, education and treatment.”
