We are currently undergoing the transformation of our parent accommodation space opposite our paediatric intensive care unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. This much needed refurbishment has been made possible thanks to an extremely generous legacy gift from Mr John Phillips, alongside donations from our amazing supporters.

Having been years since our last refresh, the renovation of our parent accommodation will transform what is a now tired looking facility, into an accessible, comfortable, and reflective environment for our families to use at some of the most difficult times. We will be converting two small bedrooms into one larger bedroom, with easy access facilities, to meet the needs of our parents and carers with disabilities. All of the bedrooms will be having a major refresh with new flooring, paint work and home comforts to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

The introduction of a family area is essential to maintain important family time and provide a space for siblings to spend with their parents away from the bedside. This is to help reduce the anxiety of ongoing separation of their family unit. We will also be transforming the under-utilised office into a relaxation room for caregivers, where they can recharge their batteries. Our families need a safe and private space where they can find a few moments to care for themselves, so that they can be there for their child. This room will be utilised across the hospital - not just by those that stay in our accommodation - impacting over 600 families every year.

This wonderful project, made possible by Mr Phillips’ legacy and our supporters, will drastically improve the experience of our patient families for years to come. Gifts in Wills are a wonderful way to invest in future generations. Whether a legacy gift is big or small, each special gift helps us to continue to innovate, improve our facilities and provide the highest standard of care.

Keep your eyes peeled for further updates on this transformative renovation!
