A manufacturing company from Solihull has claimed this week’s Charity Champion title after raising over £2,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.  

 

Whale Tankers, which specialises in the manufacturing of liquid waste vacuum tankers, chose to support the hospital’s charity after one of its employees put the good cause forward.

 

Jamie Timmins, who works as a manager at Whale Tankers, knows all too well the importance of Birmingham Children’s Hospital after his son, Samuel, was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour and needed an operation to remove it.  

 

Jamie said: “It’s been one year since we experienced the special place that is Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Samuel’s operation last year was, thankfully, a success and after four weeks, we were able to go home. We were all so impressed with the team on the Neurosurgical ward, Ward 10, and especially the consultant, Dr Solanki. Thanks to them, Samuel is on his way to making a full recovery.

“We wanted to do something to help raise funds for the hospital’s charity and help other families going through similar experiences to ours. We were really pleased when Whale Tankers said they’d help us by fundraising throughout 2018.”

 

Whale Tankers hosted a charity football match as well as a fireworks display and Christmas raffle to bring their year total up to £2,630.

“Our hospital treats over 90,000 children and young people from across the country every year, and the money Whale Tankers has raised will make a huge difference, ensuring we can offer them the best possible experience while they are with us.”
