A three times world kickboxing champion has been awarded this week’s weighty Charity Champion title, after organising his fourth White Collar Boxing Championship raising an incredible £12,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

Throughout his whole kickboxing career, Sunny Hira, has always wanted to give back to the local community using his kickboxing skills. Now a father of three and inspired by the incredible care Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s has given family members, Sunny and his sister Kam Hira, decided to organise White Collar Boxing events.

The White Collar Boxing Championships, aimed at beginners, provides men and women free boxing training for 8 weeks (twice a week), before they step into the ring at a prestigious boxing event all in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. The best male/female boxer, along with the highest fundraiser, becomes crowned 'White Collar Boxing Champion’.

To date Sunny’s events have raised an incredible £30,850 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, with his most recent event raising £12,000 for the charity’s £2 million Critical Journeys Appeal – which aims to kit out four Critical Care Ambulances with the same, and latest, life-saving medical equipment enabling the KIDS/NTS service to respond faster and more effectively, helping vulnerable patients and their families get to the right place, at the right time, for the right treatment.

Sunny commented, “It’s fantastic to use my kickboxing skills as a way of giving back the local community. We are delighted to raise money for such an incredible and immensely valuable hospital on our doorstep.

The Critical Journeys Appeal is a very worthy cause as you never know when you might need the KIDS/NTS service to ensure the safe and efficient transport of your child at a critical time.”

Annie Eytle, Acting Events and Regional Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, added: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Sunny and his fellow fundraisers for taking part in the 8 week challenge – they’re all champions in our eyes!

Their dedication and sheer determination is amazing! The money they have donated – and the funds they plan to continue to raise – will make a huge difference to the lives of our brave children and their families.

Funds donated towards our most recent appeal – the Critical Journeys Appeal - will help our Critical Care teams be response-ready and allowing us to move more patients with the same level of specialist equipment used in specialist care.”
