A garden nursery from Bromsgrove have danced into this week’s Charity Champion top spot after raising almost £8,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

Singletons Nurseries in Bromsgrove hosted an evening of live music and entertainment to raise vital funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity after being inspired by the good work the charity does.

Garden Centre managers John and Claire Singleton work with Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s Estates Department, and after visiting the hospital numerous times and seeing the work that goes on behind the scenes, the pair wanted to do their bit to help.

Their ‘Red Balloon Ball’ was in aid of the Oncology Ward, a department close to the family’s hearts after a young relative was diagnosed with Lymphoma.

John Singleton, Proprietor of Singletons Nurseries, said: “When we go to the hospital, we realise how precious life is, and how lucky we are to have healthy children. In 2017, we celebrated the 70th birthday of Singleton Nurseries and we wanted to use the celebration to fundraise for the hospital.

“Over 160 people attended the ball, and through our raffle, charity auction, silent auction and ticket sales we managed to raise £7,980 for the charity.  We’re thrilled with the final amount raised and hope the money will go on to make more children and families smile at difficult times.”

Miranda Williams, Public Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We’re so grateful to Singletons Nurseries for choosing to support our hospital’s charity at their Red Balloon Ball.

“The money they’ve raised will make a huge difference to the lives of our brave young patients, and the equally brave families on our Oncology Ward.”
