A clothes recycling company in Birmingham has done its bit for sick kids and the environment after turning cast-offs to cash and banking over £25,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

Over the past year Collection4Clothes+ has been collecting pre-loved clothes, accessories and bric-a-brac on behalf of the charity and turning them into donations to help do more for the hospital’s sick kids.

In partnership with the charity, Collection4Clothes+, which is based at Fort Dunlop, has been making door drops of empty bags for residents to fill with good quality, unwanted items. Along with items left in their big red clothes banks, they're then sent abroad where they’re sold at affordable local prices and the proceeds donated to the charity.

Recycling clothes is bread and butter for the team at Collection4Clothes+ so as well as supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital in this way, they’ve gone above and beyond to raise extra funds by taking part in the charity’s annual events. In May, the team took part in NHS Big Tea by holding a tea-party to celebrate the birthday of the NHS, raising £150, and in December the team’s collection drivers pulled on their Christmas jumpers to join in with Jolly Jumper Day, adding another £200 to their total.

Jaz Sidhu, Head of Operations and Client Relations at Collection4Clothes+, said: “We’re passionate about reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill and we're proud that we can support local charities as we do.

“We love holding our own fundraisers to raise a little extra for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity too, as they’re always such good fun and really bring the team together. We’ve recently all just signed up to the charity’s new Facebook challenge to walk 10,000 steps each day in February and can’t wait to see who can raise the most.”

Miranda Williams, Head of Public Fundraising at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “Along with Collection4Clothes+ we have a number of green aims to help the planet, and this special partnership means we can do just that whilst raising vital funds to do more for our sick kids.

“The team at Collection4Clothes+ never stop and we can’t thank them enough for their incredible contribution over the last year which will make such a difference to so many of our brave patients.”
