Your donations have allowed our Major Trauma team to create 170 emergency ‘family packs’ – drawstring bags which contain items families might need for their first 24 hours in hospital.

Every year, over 170 children and young people are admitted to our Emergency Department with Major Trauma injuries, including severe fractures, internal injuries and head and spinal conditions.

These families often arrive with nothing from home, so the family packs, which contain essentials such as water, wet wipes, tissues, toothbrushes, biscuits, chocolate bars and information leaflets about the hospital, will be waiting at the patient’s bedside to help improve their hospital experience.

Kay Newport, Major Trauma and Rehabilitation Coordinator at our hospital, said: “Without charitable funding we could never do anything like this, so we’re incredibly grateful. The packs will act as a ‘survival kit’ to hopefully make our families’ stay with us a little bit less stressful. We’re very excited about them and so is everyone else!”
