Selfless staff at Birmingham Children’s Hospital have become this week’s rightful Charity Champions after they braved the dreaded leg wax to raise vital funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

The courageous colleagues from the hospital’s IT department chose to brave the dreaded leg wax in support of the charity’s Big Bandage Appeal, which asks staff and supporters to step out of their comfort zone and do something brave for the sick kids at the hospital.

The charity’s Big Bandage Appeal celebrated its fifth year last week where thousands of supporters across the city wrapped up in bandages and took on brave challenges to raise vital funds for the children’s hospital charity.

David Marshall, Head of IT at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said: “We’re really proud to work at such a world-class hospital and are always keen to do more for the hospital by supporting the charity in their appeals.

“Our team support the Big Bandage every year, and we’re actually the reigning champions of the popular ‘tug of wards’, but waxing our legs this year was definitely the most nerve-wracking challenge we’ve done!”

Miranda Williams, Public Fundraising Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, added: “We’re so thankful to our IT department for showing their commitment to our amazing hospital, by supporting our sick kids during Big Bandage 2018. Not only did they brave the leg wax, they also took part in our many hospital activities including our famous ‘tug of wards’ where they managed to keep hold of the title!”

“The money all of our staff have raised throughout the week will go on to make a huge difference to the 90,000 sick kids and their families that we look after each year.”

It’s not too late to support the children’s hospital with their Big Bandage Appeal, all you have to do is text BIGB18 with your donation to 70070 (e.g. BIGB18 £5) to 70070.
