This festive season, we want to make sure all of our patients, who are too poorly to be at home, can still make precious memories with their families that will last a lifetime.
You’ll be supporting patients like two-and-a-half-year-old Amaya. On Christmas Day 2 years ago, Amaya was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
In December, Amaya had stopped eating; she’d started vomiting and was becoming increasingly unsteady on her feet. Her worried parents also noticed that Amaya’s right eye had started to turn inwards. She was referred to our hospital in the early hours of Christmas Day where an MRI scan confirmed the family’s worst fears.
Manjinder, Amaya’s father, said: “Finding out Amaya had a brain tumour was completely heartbreaking, especially on a day that is supposed to be filled with such joy. Just two days later, Amaya had a five-hour operation to successfully remove the tumour. The team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital were truly brilliant and we will forever be indebted to them.”
