Children’s Heart Appeal

The first of its kind in the UK, the theatre allows a range of specialised procedures to be carried out on a patient at the same time. Our Cardiac Unit is one of the largest in the UK. We care for patients with a range of congenital heart defects and cardiac conditions.

As a specialist centre, we look after children from across Birmingham, the UK and even Europe. With our cardiac team seeing more than 600 children every year.

The new hybrid theatre has been operational for over five years and has helped to dramatically increase our cardiac surgery capacity – resulting in more of our young heart patients receiving life-saving surgery more quickly than ever before.

Three Generations Run Three Races in Baby's Memory

Three generations of a Wolverhampton family who each laced up their running shoes to take on a race have raised over £600 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, in memory of their son, grandson and brother, who passed away at just two-days-old.

The Magic of Roald Dahl

In January 2020, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall visited our Children’s Hospital to unveil a unique stained-glass window installation, featuring some of Roald Dahl’s most iconic characters, specially designed by the world-famous children’s illustrator Sir Quentin Blake.
Magnolia House project

The first of its kind in the UK and funded entirely by charitable donations, Magnolia House provides a safe-haven for parents and families at their time of need.
Star appeal project

Our Star Appeal raised £3.65 million to create the UK’s first centre for the care and treatment of children with rare diseases.
Emergency radiology appeal

With charitable support we were able to replace our Emergency Department’s dated x-ray machine, taking advantage of recent advances in technology.
Burn centre appeal

In 2006, our Burn Centre Appeal helped to fund the creation of a new Paediatric Burn Centre, which enabled us to double the number of children with burn injuries that we treat each year. Although the NHS paid the majority of the development our appeal raised an additional £3 million to create the very best possible healing environment for our patients.
Children's cancer centre

Each year around 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer and more than 250 of them are treated at our hospital. To do more to improve the hospital experience for children and families facing very frightening and challenging time our Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal was launched in 2012, with the aim of raising £4million to develop a new state-of-the-art centre of our young patients.

Gifts in Kind

We often receive donations of toys and games for our patients, particularly around the festive seasons such as Easter or Christmas, and whilst we are incredibly grateful for these, we do have some guidelines around what we can or cannot accept.

Clothing Donations and Recycling

We’ve partnered up with Collection 4 Clothes, a local clothing collection company, who collect donated good quality clothing, accessories, shoes, linen & bric-a-brac on our behalf. We don’t have any charity shops on the high street, so this is a way of donating your old belongings to us from the comfort of your home.
