The Menfor Group, a leading specialist trade supplier to Aviation, Highways, Nuclear, Railway and Utilities industries and a construction sub-contractors firm, has been named as this week’s charity champion, after the company held a charity cricket tournament and raised over £1,100 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

The company, which is head-quartered in Willenhall, is a keen supporter of charities and has organised a number of events in the past for many causes. Employees at Menfor Group picked Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as its next beneficiary, as a number of staff – past and present – have benefited from the care of the hospital.

The tournament itself was the brainchild of employees and cricket-enthusiasts Mandip Singh Gill and Harry Sekhon. As two of the main event organisers, they initially set to work to secure some sponsors. After using their network of clients, friends and families, they managed to bring a number of local companies on board, including BJS Home Delivery, Zero Bounce Digital Agency, A7SPORTS, EastGate Commercials , Dr Print (UK) and BlueHorse Transport Ltd.

The tournament itself was held at Moseley Cricket Club and involved 16 teams, made up of local companies, customers and community members. The teams competed against each other in a number of 50-ball games, before the top two teams, Menfor CC and Birmingham CC, went head-to-head in the final. Menfor CC eventually emerged triumphant and were presented with the winner’s trophy. A charity raffle was also held at the event, with a number of cricket memorabilia items up for grabs.

In total, the tournament raised £1,162.46 for the hospital. Conservative MP for Walsall North, Eddie Hughes, was there to join in with the festivities and helped to present the cheque to Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity along with Mandip and Harry. He praised Menfor Group for its efforts to support community causes and wished them well for the company’s next tournament.

Mandip Singh Gill, CEO at Menfor Group, said: “As a company, we place a high importance on giving back and supporting local causes, such as the Children’s Hospital, which cares for thousands of families throughout the region and beyond.  We were so pleased with how the event went – especially as it didn’t rain! My colleagues and I have spent many months planning this and I would like to thank our sponsors, customers, friends, families and the community, for coming together and supporting such a worthy cause. We’re thrilled we managed to raise so much.”

Helen Rawnsley, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, comments: “We are so grateful for this generous donation from Menfor Group and all the sponsors who helped to put on such a great tournament. These types of charitable donations play an essential part in ensuring we’re able to continue to offer the best care, service and experience to all the children and families that pass through our doors.”
