Developing Hospital Environments
Roald Dahl Windows
Past Appeal
We were able to bring the instantly recognisable illustrations of Sir Quentin Blake and Roald Dahl’s beloved characters to our Waterfall House entrance, helping create moments of joy, escape and wonder to our patients during their time in hospital.
Creating a world of pure imagination
Sir Quentin Blake generously donated his original illustrations to our hospital enabling us to create a series of beautiful stained-glass windows in the entrance to Waterfall House.

Sir Quentin is renowned for having illustrated Roald Dahl’s books and the windows feature characters that every child and adult will recognise, including The BFG, The Enormous Crocodile, and The Giraffe the Pelly And Me.

This unique project was the brainchild of Felicity Dahl, wife of the late author, who has a strong personal connection to our hospital. Felicity’s father, Alphonsus d’Abreu, was a pioneering Thoracic and Cardiac surgeon, who operated on many young patients at the hospital until his death in the 1970s.
Our Roald Dahl windows were officially unveiled by HRM Queen Camilla, at the time The Duchess of Cornwall, who is also Royal Patron of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
