Transforming liver care with FibroScan

With this new technology, children can receive faster, safer liver assessments without the need for biopsies

Supporting Diagnosis and Monitoring

Used to monitor a range of liver conditions

The FibroScanner is currently used to monitor patients with fatty liver disease, cystic fibrosis-related liver disease, and viral hepatitis B and C.

The FibroScan has significantly reduced the need for biopsies in liver patients, which were previously the only way to monitor disease progression. In children, biopsies require a general anaesthetic and can be distressing, but with this technology, follow-up biopsies can often be avoided. It also allows patients and families to see how the condition is changing at each check-up.

Used mainly in an outpatient setting, the FibroScan tracks disease over time, making it easier to monitor improvement or deterioration at every clinic visit.

Clinical Perspective

Improving Care Through Better Insight

The FibroScan is helping clinicians make better decisions, reduce invasive procedures and support families with clearer, real-time information.

There is a lot of potential for the the Fibroscan to be used across the whole spectrum of childhood diseases. Having access to a Fibroscan improves clinical decision-making and reduces the need for invasive procedures. Having readily available results and trends handy in an outpatient setting also improves counselling of patients and families about the stage of disease and may optimise adherence to suggested treatments.
