Good-Hearted Health Club Goers Raised £129,000 For Sick Kids

David Lloyd staff holding cards with fundraising total £129,848

Good-hearted health club goers in the Midlands helped David Lloyd Clubs achieve a personal best on behalf of sick kids, raising a whopping £129,000-plus for our charity.

Eight Clubs in the Midlands region voted to support our charity as their chosen charity last year. The cause close is to the hearts of everyone at David Lloyd Clubs, with both team members and Club members having personal connections to our hospital’s life-changing impact through family and friends.

Inspired to make a difference, team members and Club members put in the ‘leg work’ to raise their phenomenal fundraising total. The regional Clubs held Hybrid Games on behalf of our charity, encouraging their members to work up a sweat for a good cause. The team members also rose to the challenge, channelling their competitive spirit by taking part in our annual Dragon Boat race at the Mailbox Birmingham.

If that wasn’t enough, the Clubs created their very own cycling challenge, racing against each other from their local Club home bases to our main hospital building. They also hosted fundraising events for the whole community, putting on family fun days with face painting, quizzes and bouncy castles in support of sick kids.

A particularly special moment for the Clubs was supporting our hospital’s Grotto, sponsoring festive gifts for brave patients staying or visiting over Christmastime. Team members who attended the visit were moved to see the smiles on faces and the difference their fundraising made at a difficult time. The Clubs then continued the festive generosity by holding a Christmas charity ball and auction, encouraging members to dig deep on behalf of sick kids.

Paul Underwood, General Manager at the David Lloyd Clubs in Rugby said: “It’s been a real privilege to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. We’ve had such positive buy-in from our members and our team members across eight Clubs, as the cause just really resonates with everyone.

“The highlight for me was visiting the hospital in person and seeing the impact the charity has on sick kids going through tough times. It really brings home why we’re doing this, and we won’t be stopping yet – we want to raise another £50,000 over the next few months.”

Will Graves, Senior Regional Fundraising at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “David Lloyd Clubs have really pushed their limits and smashed their goals with this incredible fundraising total, and they’re not done yet!

“We can’t thank them enough for their amazing efforts so far, which will help us ensure our patients and families benefit from the best care, treatment, experience and environments.”
