£1.5m Kidney Kids Appeal
Past Appeal
Working in partnership with radio station BBC WM, we hit target in October 2009 on our £1.5m Kidney Kids Appeal to create a world-class, 12-bedded in-patient renal unit, the second largest in the UK.
Over 1,500 children and young people from the West Midlands, Wales, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire, visit the Renal Unit at our hospital every year to receive dialysis, as well as treatments and transplants because of acute and chronic renal failure
Working in partnership with radio station BBC WM, we hit target in October 2009 on our £1.5m Kidney Kids Appeal to create a world-class, 12-bedded in-patient renal unit, the second largest in the UK.
The purpose-built unit now boasts a comfortable outpatient area as well as a modern ward with improved play facilities and a specialist dialysis centre, where patients typically must sit still for dialysis for four hours a day, three times a week. All the in-patient bed spaces have foldaway beds stored in cupboards so parents and carers can sleep next to their child.
Local businesses, individuals, charitable trusts and foundations as well as celebrities and even Dragon’s Den entrepreneurs helped ensure the Kidney Kids Appeal hit its £1.5m target in just 16 months.
